Allergy Relief May Come from Local Honey

By: Katie Thompson
Updated: March 31, 2012
A pesky allergy season has many searching for ways to deal with it, and one remedy that seems to be all the buzz is honey.

The Honeycomb Tree in downtown Abilene is one of several places that sell local honey to allergy sufferers.

They say it helps build up a resistance to allergens in our environment, similar to a vaccination.

Those seeking alternative medicine seem to see positive results.

"Bees when they pollinate of course they're taking in the allergens in the environment so what happens when we take a tablespoon of honey a day you're actually building up an immunity to those things you're allergic to," says Honeycomb Tree owner Diann Lunsford.

However, children 2 years and under should not use honey as an allery remedy.
