Walgreens Sells Hot Dogs to Raise Money for Relay for Life

"This is a big thing that has touched my heart, and just to be out there to help others," said Monica Pas, Walgreens employee and Relay for Life captain.

Pas is the captain for the Walgreens Relay for Life team. The cancer survivor was out with her team this afternoon selling hotdogs and nachos to help raise money. This money will specifically help people fighting cancer in the big country.

"They're able to get those services to help them through this," she said. "Because they're not alone. There's a bunch of people who go through this. We're all touched by it."

All three Walgreens stores in Abilene have set out to raise $11,000 for Relay for Life. It's a cause they support because it effects so many people.

"It's important to a lot of our employees and it's really important to a lot of our customers," said manager Stephen Elliot. "So that makes it important to us."

After being cancer free for 12 years, Pas said she participates in Relay for Life because it shows those with cancer that they are not alone.

"Wanting to reach out for those that need the help, need the comfort and need the support," she said.

Pas also said that the Relay experience is emotional. But it is powerful because it allows for participants of the event to understand what cancer fighters go through.

"You get to understand the feeling of the person going through the chemo, going through the radiation, going through all the different things. It's just an eye opener," said Pas.

But Pas said the most important part is getting the word out that there is support for those with cancer and those undergoing cancer treatment.

"There's a whole support line out there. It's just knowing that it's there for them," she said.

The Walgreens team will be out selling hot dogs again April 14th from 11am to 3pm. So far they have raised $400.
