"We're trying to come up with feasible, financially sound programs to improve public transportation," said Susan MacLay, senior associate at Goodman Corp.

A committee of Taylor County agencies met for the second time today to discuss a program that could improve the public transportation in Taylor County.

"That can be anything from extending a bus route, from let's say if it stopped at 5:30, maybe everyone gets off at 7:30. So we may extend the time of the route those two hours," said MacLay. "That's the type of thing that we can do under this program."

In their attempt to improve public transit, the committee is conducting a survey to see what commuters think is going well, and what isn't going well with the various types of transportation that Taylor County has to offer

"To look where there was gaps in transportation and also to see where service was duplicated and try to fill those gaps and also eliminate those duplicated services," MacLay said.

The goal of today's meeting was to discuss how to get word out about the survey to the public so that the committee can get proper feed back to make sure the public transportation is more effective.

"If small business owners or managers of local businesses hear about the study that we're doing, they recognize a need in their own employee pool, then we need to make sure that we're getting in contact with them," said MacLay.

The Survey has to be completed and submitted to Texas Regional Public Transportation by August, who will pick the best programs to fund for improvements.
