BELTON, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons dropped a pair of one-run games to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday afternoon at Dee Dillon Field in Belton, losing 5-4 in game one and losing the nightcap 1-0 in American Southwest Conference softball action.

UMHB took an early lead in game one with a Janie Neyland RBI single in the first inning. The Cru added four unearned runs in the fifth. Wells had an RBI single, the Cru scored on an error and Chandler Henson had a two-run single as UMHB took a 5-0 lead through five innings.

Blair Wallace homered to lead off the sixth inning and in the seventh HSU scored three times. With two outs, Bailey Watkins walked and Mac Clay singled and Amy Meyer followed with an RBI single. Wallace had an RBI double and Namey an RBI single to put runners on first and third with two outs, but Kelsey Evans popped up to end the threat.

Wallace went the distance and allowed just one earned run but fell to 11-5. Rebekah Ragsdale also went the distance allowing four runs to improve to 11-5.

Meyer had three hits and Wallace added two for HSU and Leeanne Hinojosa led UMHB with three hits.

In the nightcap, UMHB scored a run in the second inning on an RBI single by Kaysie Creech and Hannah White and Ragsdale made it hold up. White scattered five hits in six innings and Ragsdale worked the seventh for the save.

HSU put up a rally in the seventh when Lydia Bradley singled to left and Laine Strickland doubled her to third with no outs. That is when Ragsdale came on and she got a foul out by Kelsey Evans, a pop up by Shelby McIntyre and strike out of Carley Willis to end the game.

Sarah Shurbet scattered five hits in six innings of work to fall to 9-5. Bradley had two hits for HSU and Neyland led UMHB with two hits.

The Cowgirls are now 20-10 on the year and 13-3 in ASC West action. UMHB improved to 21-12 overall and to 17-3 in league play. HSU hosts Concordia next weekend for senior weekend at Ellis Field.
