McMurry and HSU Players Earn Player Of The Week Honors

HITTER OF THE WEEK
Matt Thompson, 1B, Sr., McMurry
McMurry senior first baseman Matt Thompson (Southlake, TX / Carroll HS) went 8-for-12 with two home runs, one triple, three doubles and eight RBIs over three games against cross-town rival Hardin-Simmons. Thompson, who takes the division's top weekly hitting award for the third time, also scored six runs, walked twice and played errorless defense. He went 5-for-5 with a homer - in his first at-bat - and three doubles in the War Hawks' opening game win.
CO-PITCHERS OF THE WEEK
James Simmons, RHP, Jr., Hardin-Simmons
Hardin-Simmons junior right-hander James Simmons (Abilene, TX / AHS) went 2-0 in two appearances out of the bullpen, including a victory over No. 1-ranked Trinity, after tossing 6 2/3 scoreless innings. Simmons scattered four hits, struck out three batters and walked just one. In the 3-2 win over Trinity, he tossed two hitless innings to help halt the Tigers' eight-game winning streak. His other victory came against cross-town division rival McMurry in the deciding game of series.
Jeff Spillane, RHP, Jr., Texas Lutheran
Texas Lutheran junior right-hander Jeff Spillane (Houston, TX / Houston Christian) tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in a 5-0 ASC West Division road game against Howard Payne. Spillane, who has won his last three starts, did not walk a batter. The only extra-base hit he allowed was a two-out, seventh-inning double.
 
EAST DIVISION
HITTER OF THE WEEK
Chase Brown, OF, Sr., Texas-Dallas
Texas-Dallas senior outfielder Chase Brown (Arlington, TX / Martin HS) went 7-for-10 with two doubles, five RBIs and two runs scored to fuel an ASC East Division three-game series sweep of Mississippi College. Brown, who never struck out, also walked once and stole a base as the Comets extended their winning streak to eight games. He reached base safely in his first nine plate appearances
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Chance Cotton, RHP, Jr., East Texas Baptist
East Texas Baptist junior right-hander Chance Cotton (Van, TX / VHS) tossed a complete-game, two-hitter with seven strikeouts to earn the win in a 1-0 ASC East Division game against Louisiana College. Cotton, who was perfect through four innings, did not walk a single batter over the seven frames. Both of LC's hits were singles. It was Cotton's second straight complete-game victory.

HITTERS: Texas-Tyler C Hayden Chick went 10-for-18 with two doubles over a 3-1 week. . . . LeTourneau 3B Nate Tomaszewski went 6-for-12 with a home run and three doubles over a 2-1 weekend. . . . Ozarks 2B Nick Brill hit .461 with three RBIs over four games. . . . Mississippi College 1B Brett Hightower went 5-for-10 with a homer and two doubles over three losses. . . . Louisiana College SS Jordan Marks had two doubles and drove in three runs over four games. . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor C/DH Chris Joshlin went 5-for-12 with a homer and two doubles over a 2-1 weekend. . . . Concordia Texas C Collin Janssen went 6-for-10 with a homer over a sweep of Schreiner. . . . Hardin-Simmons DH Troy Nicholson went 7-for-15 with two doubles and five RBIs over a 3-2 week. . . . Texas Lutheran 1B Matt Petterson went 4-for-12 with a homer and six RBIS over a sweep of Howard Payne.
PITCHERS: Texas-Dallas RHP Derek Dallas allowed just three hits and struck out seven without allowing an earned run to get the win over MC. . . . Texas-Tyler RHP Jack Barkley allowed just one earned run ands truck out four against Centenary to improve to 9-0. . . . LeTourneau RHP Travis Norris earned the win over Ozarks by allowing just three earned runs over eight innings. . . . Ozarks RHP Tyler Erickson tossed a complete-game in a 4-3 win over LETU. . . . Mississippi College RHP Andy Roberts allowed only one run over three relief innings against UTD. . . . Louisiana College RHP Kory Kottenbrook struck out seven and allowed only two earned runs over seven innings of work, including a tough-luck 1-0 loss to ETBU. . . . Concordia Texas LFP Scott Hays tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win over Schreiner. . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor RHP Cameron Arnett tossed a complete-game in a 4-2 win over Sul Ross State. . . . McMurry RHP Spencer Smith hurled a complete-game with six strikeouts in a 15-4 win over HSU.
