For many its a time to laugh, celebrate and be close to loved ones.

That's why the staff at the Sears Park Senior Center host a yearly Easter celebration.

"We like to call it that because we are celebrating Christ's resurrection, but at the same time we like to have fun with the easter bunnies and the eggs and the cupcakes," said Kim Barrett, the center's director.

They invite senior citizens from the community to join them for food, drinks and games.

However Barrett believes there's a much more profound meaning to Easter which is essential for seniors.

"A lot of  seniors feel like as they grow older, they grow closer to god, it just really important to them," she said.

Elena Hernandez has visited the senior center for the past 21 years and agrees the event holds a special significance.

"Well I think its very important especially for seniors that don't have anywhere else to go," said Hernandez.

Barrett says celebrations like this one are an opportunity to join the hundreds of seniors that visit the center a chance to be among family.

And Easter shouldn't be limited to just one day in the year.

"We usually do gospel singing on Mondays which we included our Easter songs this week and then we have Wednesday devotional," she said.
