Top Softball Players Honored By ASC

Angelo State tops the Lone Star Conference standings following a sweep of Texas Woman's last week.  Tarleton State is now two games back, followed by Abilene Christian and TWU.
      Midwestern State won all three games over Tarleton, and ACU took the series with two victories against Cameron.  West Texas A&M won two of three games with Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico swept Texas A&M-Kingsville.
      LSC teams have a busy week, with five league games consisting of a Tuesday doubleheader plus a weekend three-game series.  The top four teams clash on Tuesday with ASU at ACU and Tarleton at TWU.  The week wraps up with the Rambelles at the TexAnns in a three-game set.
      LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a three-game series against every other team. Each series consists of a doubleheader one day and single 7-inning game the other day.
      The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the league's automatic qualification into the NCAA postseason. The single-elimination championship will be played April 27-28 in Denton, Texas.
      LSC softball teams are 223-169 overall this season.  In the NCAA South Central Region, the LSC is currently 96-59 overall including 56-28 combined versus Heartland Conference teams, 17-11 opposed to the Great American Conference, 20-14 against the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and 3-6 versus independent teams.
 
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Allie Cranfill, West Texas A&M University, FR, Infield, Frisco, Texas, Frisco Centennial HS
Cranfill has a monster weekend for the No. 24 Lady Buffs as they took two of three games from Incarnate Word at Lady Buff Yard in Canyon. The freshman third baseman hit .833 with a double and three home runs to drive in eight RBI with an amazing 2.500 slugging percentage and a .900 on-base percentage for the weekend. During Thursday's doubleheader, Cranfill went 5-for-5 at the plate with three home runs and 8 RBI in a pair of wins by the Lady Buffs including two blasts in game two of the series.
 
PITCHER
Mary Kate McKay, Angelo State University, SO, Pitcher, Madill, Okla., Madill HS
McKay was leaned on for three of the Belles five wins last week. The sophomore lefty tossed three complete games and improved to 17-3 on the season. In 19.0 innings of work, the Madill, Okla., product boasted a 2.21 earned run average after striking out 16 and walking just three. McKay worked around 15 hits and limited her opponents to a .208 batting average in her three outings.
