The Tye City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to bring in outside authorities to investigate the possible misuse of taxpayer money by a city employee.

The council held a special meeting to discuss personnel matters and meet with the Tye city attorney. The meeting agenda stated the council met to discuss the employment status of a municipal court clerk.

After about an hour and forty minutes in closed session, the council voted to contact authorities, most likely the Texas Rangers, to investigate whether taxpayer money had been used improperly.

The decision was based on the findings of a recent audit. City attorney Ken Leggett would not comment on the audit or give any specifics regarding the employee in question.

"We're not going to make any allegations that are unfounded, but the city council determined that they should call in an outside authority to make sure that the taxpayers of the City of Tye's money has been appropriately accounted for," he said.

Leggett would not comment on the current employment status of the employee in question.

Tye Mayor Nancy Moore declined to comment on the issue.
