APD: Drunken Driver Flees Scene of Accident, Blows 3 Times Legal Limit

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 3:45, Officer Martin Walker was dispatched to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Highway 351. His investigation revealed that a loss prevention employee had contacted a female suspect after she had gone to the self-checkout line and began to selectively scan items of merchandise. The suspect left the store without paying for certain items of merchandise. Over $150.00 dollars of stolen merchandise was recovered. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had possession of medication for which she did not have a prescription and admitted to same. The suspect was arrested for theft and possession of a controlled substance; to wit Alprazolam.

Last night at approximately 9:45, Officer Damien Hutchinson was dispatched to an accident in the 100 block of North Treadaway Boulevard where an involved vehicle had fled the scene. An off-duty officer, Sgt. Willie Ford, reported this incident and made important observations that he relayed to dispatch. Sgt. Ford located and detained the male subject that had driven his vehicle away from the accident scene. Officer Hutchinson's investigation revealed that the male driver that fled the scene had indicators of intoxication and failed the standard field sobriety tests that were administered. Additionally, an open container of whiskey was located in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and taken to the county jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed the suspect's BAC to be 0.237 and 0.240. The man was arrested for an enhanced misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated due to his level of intoxication being above a BAC of 0.15.

Last night at approximately 10:10, Officer Darrin Ruiz was dispatched to a suspicious person call in the 3500 block of Cedar Run Road. Officer Ruiz contacted three subjects in a parked vehicle and could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. His investigation revealed that a male suspect was in control of a small quantity of marijuana that was located inside the vehicle along with a marijuana pipe. The subject admitted to smoking marijuana and that the marijuana was in his possession. The man was arrested for possession of marijuana.
