Eastland Community Garden Now Open

The Eastland Chamber of Commerce and a host of supporters attended the First Fruits Community Garden Ribbon cutting Saturday morning.

The First United Methodist Church of Eastland is using the land just north of their building for 4 feet by 8 feet above-ground plant-ready boxes.

For a $25 deposit anyone can grow the vegetables of their choice in a prepared bed.

Extra produce will be donated to the Eastland County Food Pantry and Meals-on-Wheels.

Only three boxes were still available Saturday morning at ribbon cutting time.

Aaron Long from Hardwick's Nursery & Produce gave hands on demonstrations and tips on planting the boxes.
