Elderly Brownwood Man Fears for Life After Being Threatened

Brownwood Police met with an 83-year-old complainant at the Law Enforcement Center around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10 regarding a former employee who he claimed had stolen from him.

According to the police report, the suspect was hired to work on a vehicle the complainant owned and had agreed to fix the engine for $350. The complainant bought approximately $700 in parts from a local auto parts dealer and left the parts with the suspect, the report states.

The complainant provided the officer with a signed and notarized affidavit (dated 2/13/12) that stated the suspect had taken the parts and returned them to the auto parts dealer and then used the money for his own personal gain, according to the report. The affidavit stated that the suspect agreed to return a total of $2400 (which included the value of the vehicle to be repaired and the parts) at the amount of $200/month until the balance was paid off.  In return the complainant would not criminally prosecute the suspect.

According to police, the complainant also reported that on Saturday, April 7, he had confronted the suspect about the payments and the suspect told him that he would "beat you to a pulp, don't you ever come near me again." The complainant said the suspect has had past violent episodes and that he felt in fear of his life at that time and would like to pursue charges against the suspect for terroristic threat.

A suspect was named and a warrant will be sought for the subject.
