Four finalists have been named for Snyder ISD's vacant athletic director and head football coach position.

Superintendent Dr. Randy Brown said the finalists are Stephen Hoffman of Del Rio; Brian Hulett of Eastland; Kyle Maxfield of Shallowater; and Aubrey Sims of Grandview.

Brown said he is very pleased with the quality of the finalists.

"These men are all proven winners, but most importantly they are men of character who truly care about the students they coach," he said. "The selection of the best candidate from this outstanding group will be difficult. Our tradition, schools and community attracted some great applicants."

The superintendent noted that 73 applications were received by Champions Search Firm.

The four finalists will be interviewed next week with the choice expected to be announced at a special school board meeting on April 23.

The four candidates will interview with Brown, SHS Principal Trig Overbo and Chief Financial Officer Dr. Randy Burks.

Hoffman, a 1996 graduate of Texas Tech, has been the head football coach and athletic coordinator at Class 5A Del Rio since January 2007.

Last season, the Rams were 9-3 and advanced to the Class 5A area finals. In 2009, the school recorded a 10-3 record that included the first playoff win in school history. He also has coached at Schertz Clemens, Marion and Cleburne. Hulett has coached at Class 2A Eastland since January 2007 and is a 2000 graduate of Eastern New Mexico.

In 2011, Eastland had a 12-1 record and advanced to the state quarterfinals. His four-year record is 31-14 while the two years prior to his arrival, the team was 2-18.

He also coached at Pampa and Cisco. Maxfield, a 1995 graduate of Texas A&M, has been at Shallowater ISD since 2009 and his teams have compiled a 24- 11 record.

In 2011, Maxfield led the Mustangs to an 11-3 record and a berth in the Class 3A Division II state quarterfinals. Shallowater defeated Snyder in the regional round of the playoffs. He also has been a head coach at Rosebud-Lott, Olton, Reagan County and Sudan. Over 15 seasons, he has compiled a 75-62 record.

Sims, a 1998 graduate of Texas Tech, has been at Grandview since 2005 where he has compiled a 63-18 record.

In 2011, Grandview had an 8-2 mark and won the district title. In 2008, the Zebras compiled a 13-1 record while advancing to the regional quarterfinals.

He also has coached at Kennedale, Midlothian and Brewer Middle School.
