Orosey and Errors Sink Cowboys

SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons allowed five unearned runs in a 6-1 loss to Texas Lutheran on Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference baseball action at Katt-Isbell Field.
 
HSU took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Joey Dearing and Marcus Uechi singled with two outs and Jay Hiller doubled Dearing home.
 
TLU tied the game in the fourth with an RBI single by Matt Peterson. TLU took the lead in the fifth inning with three unearned runs. With a runner at third and two outs Christian DeBlanc hit a ball to first that went through the legs of Troy Tarrant. A run scored and Klaus Bohrmann followed with a single to right and Anthony Gennusa had a two-run single.
 
The Bulldogs added two more unearned runs in the seventh. Daniel Harvey led off being hit by a Troy Nicholson pitch. That chased Nicholson and Harvey stole second and scored on a throwing error by Joey Dearing and Peterson had an RBI single to center field.
 
Troy Nicholson took the loss for the Cowboys, but he pitched well. He allowed five runs on seven hits, but only one of the runs was earned. He is now 4-4 on the year.
 
Brad Orosey went eight innings and struck out seven, while scattering six hits. He is 7-2 on the year and became the ASC's all-time leader in wins with 31 for his career.
 
Six different Cowboys had a hit and Hiller had the lone RBI. Daniel Yancelson, Klaus Bhormann and Matt Peterson each had two hits for Texas Lutheran.
 
HSU is now 15-16 overall and 8-8 in ASC play. Texas Lutheran improved to 22-10 overall and to 13-3 in ASC action. The two teams will play a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
