Wildcats Drop 1st Game;2nd Game Suspended vs. Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. -- For the second time in their last two weekend series, the ACU Wildcats were one-hit in a shutout loss, this time dropping a 3-0 decision to Cameron in the first game of a four-game Lone Star Conference baseball series at Cameron Field.

The second game of Friday's doubleheader was suspended because of inclement weather in the fifth inning of a nine-inning game.  ACU led 9-4 and that's where the game will pick up Saturday at 11 a.m.  After the completion of that game, the two teams are scheduled to finish the series with another doubleheader.

Last Friday, West Texas A&M pitcher Billy Gonzales fired a one-hit shutout at the Wildcats in an 8-0 win.  Gonzales almost threw a perfect game before Tyler Eager reached on an error, and then Michael Cristiani broke up the no-hitter with a single to the right side.

Friday night it was Cameron pitcher Clay Vanderlaan who shut down the Wildcat offense.  He gave up a one-out double to Chuck Duarte in the second inning, but that was it for the ACU offense.

Vanderlaan walked three and struck out nine as he picked up the win for the Aggies.

The Aggies got the only two runs they would need in the third inning as they scored two runs off ACU starter Josh Stone.  With runners at first and third and no outs, Brad Blummer grounded out to Eager to drive in the first run of the game.  Josh Dawson then singled up the middle to drive in a run to make it 2-0 and that was all Vanderlaan would need.
