Near the end of last month, Sweetwater was left without a head football coach and athletic director, as Craig Slaughter left to take the same position in Llano.

But less than a month later Shane Mobley a former assistant in Sweetwater, under Kent Jackson, has taken the helm of the Mustang program and he couldn't be happier making his return to West Texas.

"I started in Winters, Texas," Mobley said. "And I always thought, man, Sweetwater, you know, and there was kids like Amos out there playing and I'm at this little bitty, you know -- Winters is a great community. But  I was like, man, I wonder if one of these days I will ever get to coach in a place like Sweetwater. And then it happened, and now my first Head Job, I get to come back to Sweetwater. I've been blessed."

Since leaving Sweetwater, Coach Mobley has made coaching stops in the Metroplex, as well as down south in the San Antonio area. Picking up things and learning lessons he hopes to apply right here in Sweetwater to get this program back competing for championships, and of course, getting the Mustang Bowl, back to one of the premier Friday night attractions in the State of Texas.

"In playing teams like Converse Judson, you see it, and it is a different speed of football, but it's still football," he said. "There's no doubt in my mind, that the small ball, you know, the 3A's and the 2A's, that's what i think I am built for."

And as for the Mustang Bowl, Mobley knows there is plenty yo look forward to on Friday nights.

"I know that there is going to be a sea of red on Friday nights," he said. "I know that with the fans here, there's nothing like Friday nights in Sweetwater, Texas during Football season. i've been in several great places, but there's nothing like that Mustang Bowl."
