Cowboys Finish In Eighth At ASC Golf Championships

LUFKIN, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team had the third best round of the day with a 320 and moved up one spot to finish in eighth place at the American Southwest Conference Championship at the Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin.
 
The Cowboys finished the tournament with a 340-334-320-994 total. Texas-Tyler ran away from the field with a 300-295-303-898 total. They won by a record 47 strokes over second-place LeTourneau.
 
Sean Aleman and Ryan Hughes each shot 78 for the Cowboys on Tuesday. Aleman finished in 27th place in the tournament with a 88-82-78-248. Hughes shot 83-89-78-250 and Brandon Heard shot a consistent 84-83-83-250.
 
Tyler Mileger shot 91-83-81-255 and Hunter Smith shot 85-86-87-258 to round out the HSU lineup.
 
Jacob Walsh won his second straight ASC medalist titles with a 71-75-73-219 to beat teammate John Dukes by three strokes.
 
The tournament concludes the HSU season and all five Cowboys will return. Mileger was a junior and the other four players were freshmen.
