Goodenough Hires New Women's Assistant

By: Lance Fleming, ACU Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations
Updated: April 18, 2012
ABILENE - New ACU women's basketball coach Julie Goodenough announced Wednesday that she has hired Jarod Newland to be the Wildcats' assistant coach.

Newland joins Goodenough after serving for two seasons as her top assistant coach at Charleston Southern.  Goodenough brought Newland in after deciding not to retain former assistant coaches Terri Twilligear or Lynsie Blau.

In two years at Charleston Southern, Newland was the team's recruiting coordinator and worked with post players.  He was also responsible for overseeing community service, scouting opposition and marketing and promotions.

Prior to joining the staff at Charleston Southern, Newland served a four-year stint at the University of Missouri where he was a graduate assistant coach then a full-time assistant.  During his tenure at Missouri, Newland was responsible for post-player development, strength and conditioning, and recruiting and marketing.

Also at Missouri, Newland oversaw the male practice squad and lead scouting and scouting reports for the Tigers.  As an undergraduate, Newland was a student assistant at Texas Tech University.

Newland graduated from Texas Tech in 2006 with a bachelor of science in exercise and sports science, and then earned his master's of education in health and education promotion from the University of Missouri in 2008.
