Scurry Co. Judge Interviews Set for Friday

By: Snyder Daily News
Updated: April 18, 2012
The Scurry County Commissioners Court will hold an executive session at 1:30 p.m. Friday to discuss and possibly interview candidates interested in being appointed county judge.

Commissioners are asking any qualified candidate to contact them in advance to schedule an interview during the closed session.

Both the Republican and Democratic parties may place a candidate on the ballot in November.

The appointed judge would then decide if he or she will campaign for the office.

Precinct 1 Commissioner Terry Williams said the court wants candidates who understand county budgets and the judicial aspect of the position.

The county judge hears probate cases filed in the county and has original jurisdiction over all Class A and Class B misdemeanor criminal cases, which are the more serious minor offenses.

"We really need someone who is truly qualified so that we can hit the ground running with no training," Williams said.
