It's had it's ups and downs, including a fire that destroyed the roof in 1941.
Now, it has new owners that hope to make it the place to stay in Abilene.
"It's the crown jewel of Sayles Boulevard," Says Terry Browder, founder of Sayles Ranch Guesthouses.
It's one of the oldest homes in Abilene, and if you drive down Sayles Boulevard, you can't miss it.
Inside this historic home, built in 1889, a transformation is underway to create a modernized, one of a kind "boutique hotel."
"It's not going to be a museum house... we're going to respect the architecture both inside and out, but we are making a lot of changes, and trying to design the interior for modern living," Explains Browder.
Browder is the brainchild behind the project. Him and his wife have a passion for creating modern luxury, with a twist- using antique pieces from all over the world to create a one of a kind feel.
"This will be my forte, this will be the best I've done. There is more to work with, its a bigger property," Says Browder.
The end result will be a 6 bedroom, 6 bathroom, luxury hotel to be rented room by room or as a whole.
Browder pictures wedding parties and family reunions.
When it's completed, each room will have it's own personality.
"It's going to be a little Victorian, a little Western, which is appropriate for the time period, and a little bit Hollywood Regency," Says Browder.
