HSU And Howard Payne Split Tennis Matches

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's tennis team blanked Howard Payne 9-0 on Wednesday evening to set up a winner-take-all match with Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday for the American Southwest Conference West Division title.
 
The Cowboys cruised through the three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead and in singles HSU won all six matches in straight sets.
 
Sean Strehlow won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Michael McCullough won 6-0, 6-0.
 
HSU is now 10-5 on the year and 5-0 in ASC West action. Howard Payne fell to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in league play. The Cowboys close ASC play on Friday at Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis team fell to Howard Payne 5-4 on Tuesday evening at the Streich Tennis Center in American Southwest Conference action.
 
Howard Payne took an early lead after doubles with wins as No. 1 and No. 2. The Cowgirls responded with wins at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles. Howard Payne won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles and that put No. 6 singles as the last match on the court.
 
HPU's Samantha Guerrero defeated Tram Le in a pair of tiebreakers to secure the match.
 
HSU is now 7-9 on the year and 3-2 in ASC action. HSU is in a must win situation on Friday at Mary Hardin-Baylor. If they do not win, they will not qualify for the ASC Tournament for the first time in school history.
 
HPU improved to 7-13 overall and 4-1 in ASC play.
