Updated: April 20, 2012
Hawley students got to take a break today before next weeks STAAR tests to focus on going green in honor of Earth Day.

The school organized an Earth Day Field Day for the students with several activities to teach them about environmental issues.

Local representatives from Taylor Electric and the ACU science department shared going green tips that students can use in everyday life.

The event was organized by Hawley's home economics department.

"I think it's real helpful for them to know how important it is for them to take care of our environment," says Hawley Home Economics teacher Vivian Sayre. "So its just been a whole lot of different interested parties that are helping us teach our kids about how wonderful our earth is and how important it is for them to take care of it."

The popular mobile shaved ice truck Kona Ice also made a stop by the school.
