Hundreds Attend 24 Hour Relay Event for Cancer Survivors

Hundreds of cancer survivors and supporters came out on Friday for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.

Relay For Life is an overnight relay-style event, made up of teams of people who camp around the track.

Members of each team take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event.

Friday's relay began with a survivor lap. Cancer survivors who attended the event say without the support of each other, friends and family, it would be hard for them to survive.

"She was diagnosed in June with brain cancer and she's here as a survivor today so we're here to celebrate her," said Courtney Cochran, a mother of a cancer survivor.

"When we first found out I was diagnosed with cancer my mom didn't want to tell me. Now I'm here two years later doing great!" added Rex Fleming, a cancer survivor.

The relay is a 24 hour event and money raised will go toward efforts to help fight cancer.
