ABILENE - Midwestern State jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the third inning before holding on to beat the Abilene Christian softball team 5-2 Friday afternoon at Mustang Park. The loss dropped ACU's season record to 28-14.

The Mustangs (24-23) scored all their runs on six hits vs. ACU starter Peyton Mosley (11-7), but managed only one more over the final three innings against reliever Caitlyn Crain.

Lindsi Glenn (19-12) earned the victory behind five strikeouts and a pair of unearned runs. Courtney Flanary broke Glenn's bid for a shutout in the fifth with a two-out single that plated both Madison Buckley and Keanna Winkfield.

Christina Roosmalen put the Mustangs ahead 2-0 in the first with a RBI single, and then in the third, MSU plated three more runs on three hits and two Wildcat errors. Courtney Bingham doubled in the inning's first run and came around to score a play later on a sacrifice fly by Mallory Mooney. Roosmalen followed with a walk and eventually scored her team's final run viaa throwing error by the right fielder.

Winkfield led all Wildcats with two hits in raising her team-best batting average to .378.

ACU and Midwestern State resume their series Saturday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
