RICHARDSON, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' baseball team will travel to Tyler for a best-of-three series with Texas-Tyler in the American Southwest Conference Baseball Championship Series, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.

The teams will play a 2 p.m. game on Saturday and then a third game, if necessary, would be played following that.

HSU played its way into the ASC postseason with a three-game sweep of Howard Payne on the final weekend of the year. HSU is 19-18 overall and 12-9 in the ASC West play. HSU finished tied with McMurry but held the head-to-head tiebreaker advantage for the No. 3 seed.

Texas-Tyler finished the season tied with Texas-Dallas for the ASC East title and UTD had the head-to-head advantage. The Patriots are 31-9 on the year and went 14-4 in league play.

The two teams have met one previous time in the ASC Championship series with the Patriots winning in two games in 2007 in Tyler. The two teams have not met since the Patriots won a 5-4 game in the ASC Championship Tournament in 2010.

HSU, Mississippi College and McMurry are the only three teams that have qualified for all eight ASC Championship Series, since the format was started in 2005.

The Cowboys are looking for their first ASC title. HSU trails only MC in ASC postseason appearances with 12. MC has played in 13.

The other three ASC Championship Series feature ASC West No. 1 Concordia (31-8) hosting ASC East No. 4 Louisiana College (14-22), ASC West No. 2 Texas Lutheran (26-12) hosting ASC East No. 3 Mississippi College (18-21) and ASC East No. 1 Texas-Dallas (27-13) hosting ASC West No. 4 McMurry (19-21).

The winner of the four series will play in a double-elimination ASC Championship Tournament May 4-6 at the highest remaining ASC West seed.
