Legal Actions Do Not Interfere With Abilene ISD's Shotwell Stadium Renovations

"The turf we're putting down is their Revolution which is not the same turf as we understand what's down, or what was put down at Breckenridge," says Joe Humphrey, construction coordinator of Abilene ISD.

The 4-year-old turf installed by FieldTurf at the Buckaroo Stadium in Breckenridge is allegedly deteriorating, resulting in Breckenridge ISD taking legal action against FieldTurf for not honoring their 8-year warranty.

However, when I contacted FieldTurf they issued a statement going against Breckenridge's claims.

They wrote: "We have offered remediation options, at no cost to the district, that have been denied...To date, FieldTurf has been able to amicably reach resolution with all customers regarding fiber degradation without engaging the courts. We are strongly disappointed that Breckenridge is strongly considering this approach. Nevertheless, we will continue to reach out to the Breckenridge officials to find an equitable solution."

Despite all the confusion between Breckenridge ISD and FieldTurf, Abilene ISD does not seem to be too concerned.

They say the two cases are completely different, and they are installing the company's newest, top-of-the-line product.

Humphrey says, "We just recently learned that's what's also going down at the Meadowlands for the Giants and the Jets in addition to what the Seahawks have in theirs. That's the turf they're using outdoors in those really big venues."

In addition to this, Abilene ISD chose to take extra precaution.

"We have a third-party independent warranty on the turf," says Humphrey.

AISD also has engineering supervision over the process from beginning to end, something not all school districts choose to use.

Humphrey continues, "We feel like the way we did it ten years ago with engineering supervision, somebody that really knows this field is the way to go and that's what we're doing."
