This is the season where police see a drastic spike in theft cases involving lawn care tools.
APD urges residents to write down the serial numbers of lawn equipment and keep them on record in order to help police recover the property should it be stolen.
"We would know by running that serial number whether or not the item was stolen and quickly aid us in the recovery of that product and getting it back to it's rightful owner," says Officer George Spindler.
Police records show a spike in theft as 33 lawnmowers, 23 weed eaters, 12 chainsaws, 7 trimmers, 6 edgers, 5 leaf blowers and a rototiller were all stolen during this season last year.
Abilene Police hope that if residents take preventative measures they will see a decrease in theft.
