"It's just annoying, somebody takes all your lawn equipment," said Jerome Campbell, whose lawn equipment was stolen last Sept.

Cmapbell was just one of many victims last year whose lawn equipment was stolen, with 75 pieces reported missing to APD by this time last year. And while it may not be the same as a stolen cell phone or wallet  it still costs a lot to replace.

"It cost me about $300 to replace it all," he said. "I mean it wasn't worth that much that he took but it cost around $300 to replace it."

It can happen at any time. Jerome was home when someone took his lawn mower, some gas and some lights from his back porch at 11 in the morning. He even caught the guy on camera.

"The camera's right there, he had to look at them he had to see them. I couldn't believe that somebody would do that in front of all those cameras," said Campbell.

APD said that lawn theft is common, especially in the warmer months. Everyone should write down the serial numbers of their equipment, as it could make all the difference in the investigation.

"We would know by running that serial number whether or not that item was stolen, and quickly aide us in the recovery of that product and getting it back to its rightful owner," said Officer George Spindler of APD.

But the easiest way to prevent lawn equipment theft is to be careful and to lock everything up.

"Having these items properly secured, having them locked behind locked gates, and always accessible when you're working on them," said Officer Spindler.
