Updated: April 24, 2012
Volunteers at the Abilene State Supported Living Center got recognized on Tuesday night.

The department hands out awards for distinguished performance once a year. Some of  the workers have logged tens of thousands of hours of volunteer work. The program also included department employee of the year awards.

"If we had statistics that showed how many hours our volunteers spend each year and the actual dollar amount that equates to, they would be very surprised, said Barbara Reid, the Director of Community Relations.

One person has logged over 27,000 hours of volunteer time. She started at the campus in the 1960's.
