The Art Retrospect marks the V.I.P. Grand Opening for the Children's Art & Literacy Festival, which has only appeared in Austin, Texas until now.
"It's never been in Abilene before," explains Darla Harmon, from the Center For Contemporary Arts. "This is the special art of Dr. Seuss. Not only will you see his wonderful book illustrations, you will also see the secret art of Dr. Seuss."
While Friday night's party is mainly for adults, with a wine and beer cash bar and Zach Harmon street dance, the following morning will be completely geared toward kids.
"Next Saturday from 10am to noon, we're having Seussical Morning Madness!" explains The Cat In The Hat, otherwise known as Byrd Thomas. "Parents are encouraged to bring their little ones. We will entertain them!"
The Cat In The Hat will be leading art tours around the Center For Contemporary Arts. There will also be multiple games and craft activities for children to enjoy.
"They can make their very own hat like mine!" says Thomas. "It will be a morning full of madness and wonderful fun times with the Cat In The Hat."
The Art Retrospective and Children's Morning Madness are all part of the greater Children's Art & Literacy Festival in June, sponsored by the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council.
"This is going to be a great thing for the city of Abilene." says Harmon.
