Meals on Wheels Gets Grant for Pet Food

By: Gina Benitez
Updated: April 27, 2012
Abilene's Meals on Wheels program not only provides to needy people, but gives to hungry pets as well.

The program received a $1,200 grant, from Banfield Charitable Trust that will go directly towards supplementing the pets of Meals on Wheels clients.

Clients of the program have been known to share their home-delivered meals with their pets, unaware of the pet food on wheels program.

"They're on such a limited income that it helps them to be able to have the food to give to their pets," say Meals on Wheels' Robbie Burleson. "It makes them healthier and their pets healthier."

The program hopes to provide food to 350 needy pets this fiscal year.
