APD: Young Male Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Parent

By: Officer George Spindler, APD
Updated: April 27, 2012
Yesterday morning at approximately 8:15, Officer Ralph Garcia responded to a disturbance in progress at a residence in the 400 block of Shelton Street. APD was advised that a male subject was in a verbal altercation with his parents. During his investigation, Officer Garcia observed that the young male was not compliant with his parents and that the male allegedly assaulted one of the parents during the confrontation, resulting in an injury to the victim's hand. The subject refused to leave the residence and was arrested for assault family violence.

Yesterday evening at approximately 7:15, Officer Chris Collins was dispatched to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of US Highway 351. APD was advised that a female suspect with no identification had been detained for theft. Officer Collins' investigation revealed that a female suspect had been contacted by a loss prevention employee after the employee observed the suspect conceal merchandise in her purse and leave the store without paying. Approximately $56.00 in stolen merchandise was recovered and the suspect was arrested for theft.

Early this morning at approximately 12:30, Officer Chris Jennings responded to a burglary of a building at a business in the 1500 block of Poplar Street. APD was contacted by a concerned citizen that a burglary of a storage unit was in progress. Officer Jennings responded and attempted to detain two subjects while using his emergency lights. Both subjects initially stopped but then fled on-foot. Officer Jennings began chasing the subjects through a residential area. During the foot pursuit he commanded them to stop but they kept running. Officer Jennings caught one of the subjects and arrested him. The male subject explained that he ran because he thought he had warrants. The charge was enhanced to felony evading detention because the man had previous convictions for evading. A report for burglary of a building was taken and that investigation continues.
