Abilene, Texas --- The Abilene Prairie Dogs announced Friday they have traded pitcher Erik Draxton to the Colts in exchange for infielder Devin Goodwin. Both players were offseason acquisitions by their respective clubs.

The Colts signed Goodwin on February 6. He did not play last season, but was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2009, and spent the first two years of his career in their organization. In 2010 Goodwin reached the Class High A Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League.

Goodwin, 25, is entering his third pro season with a career .256 batting average, 10 home runs and 65 RBIs in 119 games.

Draxton was originally traded to Abilene from the Southern Illinois Miners of the independent Frontier League on February 3 in exchange for fellow pitcher Alex Casillas. Draxton went 2-3 with a 4.84 earned-run average and 11 saves in 41 relief appearances for the Miners last season. Of the 41 games Draxton pitched in, he finished 31 of them.

The righthander began his career with the Miners in 2010. Draxton pitched 10 1/3 scoreless innings and recorded five saves his rookie year.

Draxton, 25, is entering his third pro season with a career 3-3 record, a 3.93 earned-run average and 16 saves in 51 games.

The Abilene Prairie Dogs are a member of United League Baseball who will play their first season in 2012. Season ticket plans are on sale now, and are available by calling the Prairie Dogs front office at (325) 437-6555.
