McM Men's Tennis Eliminated from ASC Tournament

TYLER, Texas - McMurry University bowed out of the American Southwest Conference men's tennis championships, suffering a 5-0 first-round loss to Mississippi College at the Tyler Tennis and Swim Center courts.

The War Hawks, the No. 3 seed from the ASC West, close their season with a 7-9 record overall after falling to the Choctaws, No. 2 from the ASC East.

The day started with McM dropping all three doubles matches. At No. 1, the tandem of Chris Breaux and Casjen Rico lost to MC's Christian Branning and Chris Wooten by an 8-4 score.

At No. 2 doubles, McMurry's Alex Johnson and Donald Matthews were topped by the Choctaws' Jacob Womack and Matt Whiteside, 8-1. No. 3 pairs play had a similar outcome, where the War Hawks' duo of Preston Steblein and Arnett McClure lost, 8-4, to Matthew Martin and Dudley Lampton.

Lampton then blanked McM's McClure at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0 to extend Mississippi College's team lead to 4-0. When the War Hawks' Matthews fell to Whiteside at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1 the deciding point was won for the Choctaws and the remaining matches halted.

McMurry was down a set in one other match and trailed in the first set of two others. Only Breaux at No. 1 singles led Branning, 3-2 in the first set, when the team result was decided.
