UT-Tyler Tops HSU In Game 1

TYLER, Texas - Texas-Tyler used a six-run first inning to beat Hardin-Simmons 10-0 in run-rule fashion in the first game of the American Southwest Conference Baseball Championship Series on Friday night at Irwin Field in Tyler.
 
The Patriots used five hits and an error in the first inning. Issac Tijerina had an RBI single, T.J. Martin singled up the middle and then Will Allen had a three-run double and Garrett Machacek had an RBI single to chase HSU starter Stewart Person and make it 5-0. Jake Ashley added a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
 
Jordan Dotson, Eric Zamora and Alex Bradley all worked in relief of Person. Person is now 4-3 on the year. Jack Barkley earned the complete-game win and improved to 10-1 on the year.
 
After a two-out walk in the sixth the Patriots received a Jake Ashley triple and an RBI single by McCain to make it 8-0. Allen had an RBI triple in the seventh and Machacek to put the run-rule into effect.  
 
Jay Hiller had two of the Cowboys' six hits. HSU hit into four double plays in seven innings. Martin had three hits for UTT and Allen drove in four runs.
 
The Cowboys are now 19-19 on the year. The Patriots are now 32-9 on the year. HSU must win two games on Saturday, just like last weekend, to continue its season.
