Cowgirls End Season At ASC Tournament

FARMERS BRANCH , Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday afternoon in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament at Oran Good Park in Farmer's Branch.
UMHB loaded the bases in the first and then two runs came in on consecutive illegal pitches by Sarah Shurbet. Hannah White added an RBI single in the third inning.
The Cru added a two-run RBI single from Kaysie Creech in the fifth inning.
Leanne Hinojosa, Creech and White had two hits each for UMHB. Four different Cowgirls had one hit.
Shurbet started the game in the circle and allowed three runs on five hits in two-plus innings. She finished her career second all-time in wins for her career. Blair Wallace worked the final five innings.
Rebekah Ragsdale scattered four hits in the complete-game shutout for UMHB.
The game ended the careers of seven Cowgirl seniors: Amy Meyer, Taylor Namey, Kelsey Evans, Sarah Shurbet, Laine Strickland, Bailey Watkins and Blair Wallace.
HSU finished the year at 23-17 and UMHB improved to 25-16 and will advance in the tournament.
