"That's why we're here today, because it's the one thing we can do to fight back against cancer," said Amy Carnes, community manager of income development for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

The Shackelford county relay for life has set out to raise close to $4000 again. Because cancer is a disease that has touched many lives.

"You know it seems like everybody has had cancer. and I'm one person, there's you know you look around here at all these people out here today and everybody has a story like that," said Carnes.

This includes 12 year old Baley Green, who found out she had cancer when she was ten years old after experiencing some weird pain and trouble doing daily tasks. But the cancer was found on accident.

"They ordered me a CAT scan, but they ordered me the wrong CAT scans so they just happened to find a spot on my adrenal gland," said Green. "So we went through and we did surgery and they found out that it was a cancer called Ganglioneuroblastoma, which is like a cancer that's a one in a million thing."

Being ten years old and having cancer was hard enough, but Baley said the worst part was being far from home.

"It was hard because I was in, I couldn't do anything for a long time, and I was in the hospital so I didn't have any friends because we were in Fort Worth instead of Albany."

That's why she participates in Relay for Life every year. The two year survivor wants to help out cancer victims and survivors.

"Just to support other people that are having, that have cancer or are going through it. And just raise money for them," she said. "Because I've had it and so i know how it feels."

Shackelford county residents can still donate to Relay for Life. The deadline for donations is August 30th.
