Former Wylie Bulldog Case Keenum Signs As A Free Agent With Houston Texans

HOUSTON - Former University of Houston quarterback Case Keenum has agreed to a free agent contract with the Houston Texans.

Keenum did not get drafted, but his stint as an unemployed football player did not last very long.

He agreed to a deal with the Texans shortly after the draft ended on Saturday.

"It means a lot," Keenum said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "It was a pretty crazy day.

"If you would've told me this is where I would be at the end of today yesterday or last week, I would be with the Texans, I couldn't have been happier. I'm absolutely thrilled, not only to stay in Houston. There's so many things that mean a lot to me and it's just one of those things where God just makes the right place for so many reasons."

Keenum said he is just ready to go to work with the Texans.

"Just very excited," said Gary Kubiak, Texans head coach, in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "He was my first call.

"We had a lot of conversations over the course of the last month, just talking football, and talking about life a little bit. I wasn't sure if we were going to be in position to draft a quarterback or what was going to happen with him, but I told him, 'let's just stay in touch,' and we end up working it out."

A sixth-year senior last season, Keenum broke every offensvie record that matters to a quarterback.

He is the NCAA all-time leader in total passing yards (19,217), touchdowns (155) and completions (1,546).

Keenum is also the FBS record for career total offense and he has completion percentage of 68.5, after throwing more than 40 passes every time he started a game.

"I think it's a great opportunity for him and it's a great opportunity for us, because he's a fine young man," Kubiak said. "He's got all of the ability that you need. He just has to make kind of a transformation, going under center and doing those things. I think together we're going to try to make it work. He's very athletic and we ask our quarterbacks to do a lot of movement, so that's a positive for him.

"I can't wait to work with him and hopefully it will work out for both of us."
