New Playground for Children in Low-Income Neighborhood

By: Kristin Anderson
Updated: April 30, 2012
Children in one Abilene neighborhood will now have a place to spend their time outside.

Friendship Park, which is located on Meander Street, was dedicated by Habitat for Humanity, the Old Town Abilene Associate and the West Texas Park People. The playground and park was designed to give children and families in a low-income neighborhood a means to get outside.

"We wanted to bring something to this neighborhood so that these children could get out and have something to do and play and not play in the streets," said Habitat for Humanity Board Chair Tammy Kister. "And the families could come together and just have fun out here in this little park."
