Eagles Walker Advances To State Finals

Abilene High sent 3 players to the State Tennis Tournament on Monday, and 1 of those players is still alive.

Junior Erin Walker survived a tough 3-set match in the semifinals to move on to Tuesday's championship game.

Walker rolled past Sofia Guerra, Katy Taylor, in the 1st round down at the Lakeway World of Tennis near Round Rock. She won that match, 6-2, 6-0 to to the semi's.

Walker lost the 1st set to Jarret Fisher from New Braunfels to get into a hole, but that's when the Lady Eagles star came to life. She won the 2nd set in a tiebreaker, 7-3. Walker closed the match by taking the final set, 6-4.

The finals are set for Tuesday where Walker will take on Mariam Zein from Fort Bend Dulles for the gold medal. 

The doubles team of Caroline Morris and Marlee Cutbirth lost to a team from The Woodlands in the 1st round, 6-1, 6-0.
