Walker's Bid For State Title Comes Up Short

By: David Robinett
Updated: May 1, 2012
Abilene High's Erin Walker entered today's Class 5A girls singles championship with a chance to finish the Spring with an unbeaten record, but she came up just short of that goal.

Walker, a junior, lost the championship match today in straight sets at Lakeway World of Tennis to Mariam Zein from Fort Bend Dulles.

Zein took control of the match by taking the 1st set, 6-4, and then she followed that up by winning the 2nd set and the match, 6-3.

Walker's appearance in the finals was the best showing by any District 3-5A tennis player at the state tournament.
