The high school baseball playoffs start this weekend for the Abilene High Eagles. The Eagles start their run in the Class 5A postseason at home on Friday.

A playoff appearance didn't seem all that likely after the 1st half of district play. The Eagles were just 3-3, but that was then.

The Eagles are playing better than any other team from District 3-5A heading into the postseason.

Head caoch Scottie Sanchez sasy the timing couldn't be any better. He said, "It is important. It's important to start playing great baseball at the right time of year whether is high school, college, Little League, you know, whatever.  Right now we feel like we are playing the best baseball we can possibly play." Sanchez added, "You know, we've got some little things that we've got to make some improvements on, but to go into the series with Arlington Lamar coming off a 5-game winning streak and feeling the way we do about it, you know, we feel good about it. It might be attitude.  It's confidence. You know, I wish I had a great answer for you. We'd bottle it and sell it. Right now we are playing and feeling good about ourselves."

The Eagles best of 3 series starts at Blackburn Field at 4:30 against Arlington Lamar on Friday. Game 2 is Saturday in Arlington at 1.
