Stephens Co. Commissioners Hear Opposition of County Road

Commissioners heard complaints over county road easements during Monday's regular meeting at the Stephens County Courthouse.

Clinton Easter approached the group over concerns about a portion of CR 161, near the property of Bertsy Dye, in Precinct No. 1.

Easter said a portion of the road should belong to Dye and should be private property in order for her to keep up with the road's maintenance.

However, the county maintains the rights to the road, which Easter said is not the right thing to do.

Easter, who has been doing dirt work and farm work for Dye said the situation over the road has been a growing concern and some action needed to be taken.

"I've been stewing about this for a while," he said. "If she doesn't get her road back, then we'll just have to get with the legal part of it."

Easter said there have been surveys conducted showing the county was "in the wrong" by taking the road away.

He said he had a discussion with Precinct No. 1 Commissioner Jerry Toland that came away with negative results.

"I guess I'll just stay out of this county and then just stay out of this business," Easter said. "But, you guys are wrong."

No action was taken on the discussion.

Commissioners heard reports from Leslie Neve, County Extension Agent-Agriculture and Janet Nelson, County Extension Agent-Family and Consumer Science and approved minute orders from meetings on March 19 and March 26.
