11 HSU Cowgirls Honored By ASC

RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons had 11 different players honored by the American Southwest Conference as the league announced its 2012 postseason awards on Wednesday.
 
Senior Kelsey Evans was named the sportsmanship athlete of the year in the West Division and sophomore second baseman Mac Clay, senior shortstop Amy Meyer, senior catcher Taylor Namey, senior centerfielder Laine Strickland and senior pitcher Blair Wallace were named to the first team. Meyer and Namey both became four-time all-ASC selections.
 
Freshman designated hitter Brittany Acosta, freshman third baseman Carley Willis, junior outfielder Shelby McIntyre and senior pitcher Sarah Shurbet were all named to the second team. Junior first baseman Julia Bradley was named an honorable mention selection.
 
Rebekah Ragsdale of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Katie Poerner of Howard Payne were named the ASC West pitcher and player of the year.
 
Texas Lutheran freshman shortstop Ashley Jacobsen, who was tabbed as the newcomer of the year. Mary Hardin-Baylor outfielder Janie Neyland earned freshman of the year honors. Mary Hardin-Baylor (Larry Hennig and Julie Norris) earned the West Division coaching staff of the year awards, respectively.

West Division Freshman of the Year: Janie Neyland, OF, Fr., Mary Hardin-Baylor
West Division Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year: Kelsey Evans, OF, Sr., Hardin-Simmons
West Division Coaching Staff of the Year: Mary Hardin-Baylor (Larry Hennig, Julie Norris)
