State Initiative Encourages Post-Secondary Education

By: Brendaliss Gonzalez
Updated: May 3, 2012
Thousands of students are preparing to graduate this month and there's a big state and local push to encourage them to continue on to college.

This Friday has been declared Generation TX day in Abilene and representatives from Generation TX, a state initiative to encourage post-secondary education, are encouraging everyone to wear a college T-shirt.

Several local businesses will do the same to show support for seniors and motivate them to consider pursuing a degree or certificate after high school.

Public events for Generation TX day start tomorrow night at 6:00 with the education celebration at the Sears Park Recreation Center.

There will be representatives from a variety of local businesses and civic organizations as well as games, prizes and food.
