Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison visited Abilene this afternoon.

The Abilene Chamber of Commerce and local leaders held a special luncheon to thank the senator for her service to the area.

Hutchison is leaving the senate next year, when her current term expires.

She says she wanted to return the thanks to the various Abilene leaders who helped her represent the area.

"I've loved the experience of working with the leaders of Abilene, and today it was just a wonderful way to come together and have a nice closing," the Senator said.

Senator Hutchison wanted to make it clear that while she is leaving the United States Senate, she does not plan to retire, and hopes to continue work in the public arena.
