APD: Cop Hears Yelling, Finds Man Assaulting Girlfriend

By: Officer George Spindler, APD
Updated: May 3, 2012
This morning at about 12:30, Officer Edward Cutbirth was in a parking lot in the 1800 block of South Clack Street when he heard someone yelling. He pulled up to the area where the yelling was occurring and observed a male subject standing over a female who was on her knees. The female, whom he later learned was the man's girlfriend, was crying. Officer Cutbirth heard the man say he wanted his keys and then the man grabbed hold of the female and forced the keys out of her hand. Officer Cutbirth then placed the man into custody. His investigation revealed that the male subject had allegedly assaulted the female earlier by hitting her. The man was arrested for assault family violence.

This morning at about 12:40, APD was notified by a calling party that a female victim had been stabbed outside a business in the 4800 block of South 14th Street. The calling party advised APD that she was transporting the victim to a local hospital. Officer Damien Hutchinson responded to the hospital for further investigation. His preliminary investigation revealed that a female victim, whom he was able to speak with, had been in a verbal altercation that escalated into physical violence. The victim was stabbed by a known subject with an unknown weapon. The victim was in fair condition as a result of puncture wounds to her leg and chest. This investigation continues.

This morning at about 3:15, Officer Mark Thomas was dispatched to a disturbance in-progress call at a residence in the 1000 block of Justice Way. APD was advised that there was a male subject yelling outside of the calling party's door and that the man was banging on her door. The subject was not at the calling party's residence when Officer Thomas arrived. However, he heard yelling nearby and went to investigate. He contacted a male subject and discovered that the man was intoxicated. The man was arrested. Upon searching the man he located several baggies containing a crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. The man was arrested for public intoxication and for possession of a controlled substance; to wit: methamphetamine.

APD reminds our community that they are the first line-of-defense in preventing crime.
