Last fire season close to three thousand homes were destroyed and nearly four million acres burned. Thanks to the hard work of the Texas Forest Service and other fire fighters, volunteer and professional, that number was much lower than it could have been. But it's time for us, to join the fight.

We visited with Brad Britten with the Texas Forest Service to here how they are preparing for wildfire season. "We aren't expecting anything like we saw last year. The two thousand eleven fire season was record setting as we all know. We are expecting more of a regional fire season this year.", explains Britten.

Britten adds, "In the Big Country area there's one hundred and six fire departments, career and volunteer. Those volunteer fire departments are the ones covering the majority of the wild fires throughout the state of Texas and just like anything else volunteerism in the state is down. So if you are at all interested or want to give back I would encourage you to get with your local fire chiefs and volunteer."

If you have any questions for Brad or just want to learn more about how to stay safe during this fire season, find the Texas Forest Service both in Facebook and Twitter. Also visit their website www.texasforestservice.tamu.edu for all the facts and information on wildfires.
