Hundreds of students gathered at the Abilene Public Library this morning for a special honor.

Abilene ISD Superintendent Heath Burns and Mayor Norm Archibald were there to honor students who have read at least 1 million words during the school year.

The 1st-8th grade students performed a mass dance routine and played the "Are You Smarter than a Million Word Reader?" trivia game against principals.

The event aims to encourage young students to continue to read.
