It's all about precision, aim and plenty of concentration.

More than 100 archers made their way to the big country to compete in the Abilene Bowhunter's
Association's district tournament held at the association's range near Lake Abilene.

archers earned points with their ability to hit the target..

"The abilene event is one of the favorite events for the shooters.  the terrain here is very unique.  we have all different skill levels, we have classes for kids six to eight years old all the way up to eighty year old people," said Mike Smith, director of the Archery Shooters Association in Texas.

The archers with the top scores will go on to compete in the state competition.

It's a nationwide association, but Texas is one of the top states in competitions.

They tell us the sport has been losing popularity, but movies like the hungar games have sparked a new interest among the young.
