By: Katie Thompson
Updated: May 7, 2012
A group of law enforcement officers representing Abilene and Taylor County will take part in an annual unity ride to Washington D.C. later this week.

The 300 mile bike ride from Trenton, N.J. to our nation's capital begins Wednesday.

The Police Unity Tour is held to honor and remember officers who have been killed in the line of duty and show support for their families.

Representing our area are APD officers Carye Adkins and Joshua Ward, Sheriff's Deputies Katherine Handy and Johnny Levario, as well as APD Chaplain Donna Kleman.

This year, the names of two Abilene police officers who died in the line of duty - Chief Robert E. Burch and Officer William Sam Beam - will be read during the memorial.
